Together We Can Give More Wild Horses and Burros Good Homes.

Balancing the needs of these historic herds with local communities and the land is challenging, but we know we can support healthy herds and healthy public lands with your help.

About Us
The Foundation for America’s Public Lands is the official charitable partner of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). We work hand-in-hand to help increase support and funding for some of the hardest working public lands and waters in America, and to inspire more people to connect with the outdoors.
Our Goal

50,000 wild horses (mustangs) and burros trained, matched and adopted.

Your donation can help increase the chances that each unique and special mustang or burro finds the right home through specialized training programs and adoption events across the country. When you give, you change the lives of these animals and the families they call their own, forever.

Now More Than Ever

Today, these living symbols of the history and spirit of the West face unprecedented challenges. Growing populations and increasing drought has led to water and food scarcity, stressing the health and longevity of family herds.

Once you gain their (mustang’s) trust, it’s like they really see you as family. They don’t just tolerate your company—they enjoy it. There’s a unique bond that forms when you connect with them. I love everything about mustangs: their intelligence, their personalities, their quirks, and even their individual physical traits. They’re so different from domesticated horses in the way they view the world. They’ve got this raw, untamed wisdom that’s just fascinating.

Will You Help Us?

In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration, we set our sights on helping 25,000 mustangs and burros meet their new families by next year. Adoption success stories happen when animals are given the chance to work with experienced trainers, and when potential adopters understand the cost and care associated with bringing these American icons home. Your support helps get us there!

Frequently Asked Questions

When you donate today, you give mustangs and burros a chance at a new life – with a family and a home of their own. Dollars raised through this campaign go to support specialized training opportunities (for both trainers and animals); care and feeding for animals awaiting adoption; visits, events and community education programs to help educate, and introduce, more potential adopters.

The BLM hosts an Online Corral that features dozens of mustangs and burros available for adoption. You can learn more about their origin, size and temperament, their location (for pick up) and if they may be featured during an upcoming in-person event. You can also “bid” on your favorite mustang or burro via the Online Corral.

The BLM hosts adoption and sales events across the country throughout the year. Check out the schedule to find events near you or visit the Online Corral to learn more about adoptable mustangs and burros.

Potential adopters and/or owners must meet a specific set of requirements for care in addition to completing an application prior to adoption/sale events.
