What Public Lands Mean to Me

Favorite thing to do in public lands or public waters?

I'm an avid hiker and wilderness photographer who thrives in wide-open spaces. I’m especially drawn to desert vistas, lush redwood forests, and the dramatic beauty of remote mountain peaks. I also enjoy kayaking—I've paddled stretches of the American River and often row just off the Pacific Coast.

Where is your favorite spot?

My goodness, this is a hard question. If I had to name a specific location, it would have to be the San Rafael Swell. There is something about the desert. I can spend a lifetime hiking through the canyons of the Colorado Plateau or exploring the many unnamed desert peaks of Nevada’s Basin and Range. I also love the alpine zone of the Sierra Nevada. I spend many summer mornings at elevation watching the sunrise shine on the Range of Light’s granite peaks.

What excites you most about working with the Foundation? (or, What excites you most about the work of the Foundation?)

I’m thrilled to help increase awareness for the Foundation’s important work. Our public lands have the power to inspire and connect people, and I’m passionate about creating opportunities for folks to experience our shared public lands and waters.
