As Community Engagement & Outreach Manager for the Foundation for Public Lands, Brittney Gilardian supports the Foundation’s state and federal government relations, community engagement, and program development.

Brittney came to the Foundation most recently from the Urban Land Institute’s Advisory Services Program. The program provided technical assistance to over 750 communities around the globe tackling land use challenges ranging from natural disaster recovery, environmental resilience, rural and downtown revitalizations and more, in which she traveled to different communities, lived in various communities for a week at a time to truly understand the issue, and would engage with local stakeholders at each city. In this capacity she would partner with communities, non-profits, and city officials, to arrange for panels of experts to give advice to those communities. Prior to that, she worked for the National Association of Counties (NACo) in which she hosted webinars for county executives on geographic information systems, rural county technology, and more. Prior to that, she worked in branding for the world’s largest law firm, Dentons. Brittney has also worked in three different offices for the Executive Office of the President of the United States (The White House).

Originally from New York, Brittney lived in Washington, DC for 9 years, and recently moved to Seattle, Washington to interact with more public lands and nature.

What Public Lands Mean to Me

What is your favorite thing to do on public lands or in public waters?

I love hiking on, and looking at, glaciers. I also enjoy hiking on red rocks and riding horses. I adore interacting with marine animals. Searching for sea glass is fun too. I also enjoy swimming in lakes and waterfalls.

Where is your favorite outdoor spot?

Anywhere that has glaciers! I also love it when gazebos are built on public lands for people to enjoy. I appreciate outdoor amphitheaters so much as they give people an opportunity to enjoy theater or music surrounded by nature.

What excites you most about working with the Foundation? (or, What excites you most about the work of the Foundation?)

I'm most excited to partner with different communities! I love that the Foundation places a lot of value on advanced technology to make lands more sustainable for future generations. Having a background in supporting U.S. counties in technology, I believe we should lean on technology for the future.
