Reflecting on a Year of People and Projects

The Foundation for America’s Public Lands joined the Moab BLM Field Office, the State of Utah, and local community partners, including the Canyonlands Natural History Association, San Juan and Grand counties, UDOT, and the Utah High School Cycling League, to celebrate the near completion of the Mud Springs Trails. The project reflects a shared commitment to multiuse recreation, bringing hikers, cyclists, and e-bike riders together on a new trail system that offers visitors some of the best views of the Moab Valley and the La Sal Mountains.

As I close out my second year as the Foundation’s inaugural CEO, I am struck by how much possibility has become progress. I am energized by what is possible when we invest early, listen deeply, and stand alongside the communities that care for America’s public lands. The Foundation began with the ambition to bring partnerships […]

Celebrating Local Volunteers: The Heart of Public Lands

People visit the outdoors for many reasons. Some come for the quiet. Others come for the views. Most come because these places make them feel more like themselves. What many do not see are the people who work hard every day to care for America’s hardest-working public lands. The volunteers who pull weeds, check fences, flag damaged trails, and […]

Working Hard for the Hardest Working Lands and Waters in America

Our BLM public lands and waters are a vital part of the American story. You will be hard pressed to find any others quite like them. I’ve also seen first-hand the challenges and opportunities that […]

Expanding Possibilities for Mustangs, Burros, and Public Lands

By: Theo ChangAdvisor, Wild Horses and Burros As a young child, my greatest sources of joy came from being outdoors, and being around animals (even better if both were present at the same time!). While many other things changed as I grew older, those aspects of my life have remained the same and ultimately led […]

Reflecting on a Year of Growth and Ambitious Goals Ahead

This time last year, the Foundation was in start-up mode. Not only was I the Foundation’s first CEO, I was also the first employee. Armed with a strong strategic framework set forth by the inaugural Board of Directors, I began engaging with stakeholders, the BLM, and local communities to learn how the Foundation can support […]
