The Foundation for America’s Public Lands is honored to be named a recipient of the 2025 AllTrails Stewards Fund. This award will support our project to expand ADA access to the outdoors at Montana’s Scratchgravel Hills Recreation Area in the Helena Valley.
As the official Congressionally chartered charitable partner of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Foundation for America’s Public Lands works to ensure the health and stewardship of the nation’s hardest working public lands and waters. The Scratchgravel Hills project is a collaboration with the BLM, Montana FWP, and the Montana Bicycle Guild to build an ADA-compliant trail loop, creating new opportunities for people of all abilities to enjoy their public lands.
This first-of-its-kind trail in the area will feature gentle slopes, wheelchair-friendly compacted gravel, and improved parking access designed for all visitors. It will benefit those using mobility aids, parents with strollers, and hikers looking for an opportunity to experience the outdoors.
By connecting to the wider trail system via the Norris Road trailhead and sitting adjacent to a popular disc golf course, this new loop will enhance the experience for the 30,000 visitors who enjoy the area each year while welcoming even more people to explore the beauty of the Helena Valley.
We are deeply grateful to AllTrails for supporting this project and for their continued commitment to making the outdoors more accessible and inspiring for all.
